Privacy Policy

Australian Cow is a small blog, and this policy is deliberately short because we collect very little.

What we collect

If you email us or use the contact form, we receive whatever you send — typically your name, email address and message. We use it to reply to you, and for nothing else. We don't sell it, rent it or add you to a mailing list without you asking.

Like almost every website, our web host records standard server logs: IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. These are generated automatically by the hosting provider and used for security and troubleshooting.

Cookies and tracking

This site uses Google Analytics 4 so we can see how many people visit, which articles get read and roughly where in the world readers are. It sets a small number of cookies in your browser, with names beginning _ga, which give your browser an anonymous identifier so a returning reader is not counted twice. We run no advertising networks, and we do not sell or share this data.

What Analytics records is the page you are on, the site or search that sent you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. We see totals and trends, never individual people. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.

If you would rather not be counted, you can install Google’s official opt-out browser add-on, block cookies for this site in your browser settings, or read in a private window. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Third parties

The site is hosted by Hostinger, whose own privacy terms apply to the server logs described above. Google Analytics is provided by Google, and Google’s privacy policy governs what it does with the data described in the section above. Messages sent through the contact form are delivered straight to our own mailbox by the web server — they do not pass through any third-party form service.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@australiancow.com and we'll action it.
